Doctor Vito: A Lifetime of Service, Celebrating 60 Years in Medicine
Following in the footsteps of a giant was not easy, but Dr. Vito, a Family General Practitioner, not only picked up the baton but amplified his father's legacy. This year, as we commemorate the 60th anniversary of his graduation, we celebrate a lifetime dedicated to healing.
Like his father, his mission knew no schedule: he would set out at any hour, on foot or, more often, at the wheel of his legendary red Fiat 500, launched at full speed along Positano's steep curves, a scarlet flash racing to save a life. A renowned cardiologist and Senator of the Order of Doctors, he was the community's guardian angel in an era without hospitals, saving countless lives.
His heart always remained in Positano: he trained the Red Cross volunteers, laying the groundwork for the 24/7 medical outpost that serves the community today. He left us in April 2025, but his lesson of love and service, and the vision of that little red 500 speeding by, remain indelible in every street of this town he loved so much. His Gold Medal forever commemorates a life spent not only curing, but building a rescue system for his people.
